John Monahan, CEO

October 31, 2022 — We are pleased to announce the arrival of John Monahan as President and CEO of Mount Pleasant Group, one of Canada’s leading cemetery operators and providers of death care services.

John has had a diverse career spanning the private, public, broader public and not-for-profit sectors. He practiced law with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Toronto and held a series of progressively responsible roles with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in Toronto and New York before joining The Mosaic Institute as its inaugural Executive Director.  Most recently, John was a two-term Warden of Hart House at the University of Toronto, where he was also a member of the Steering Committee of the University of Toronto Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, an appointed chair of the Academic Appeals Committee, and a Senior Fellow at Massey College.

A lifelong volunteer, John has been actively involved with community-based organizations engaged with a wide array of issues, including newcomer settlement, cancer support, performing arts, and human rights, among others.

We are excited by the variety and breadth of John’s experience, which we believe positions him well to help guide the future path of the Mount Pleasant Group and reinforce our nearly two-century old commitment to serving individuals and communities with a wide diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences.

John takes over from Glenn McClary who recently retired after 21 years of dedicated leadership.  We are deeply grateful to Glenn for his outstanding service, and we wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.

Please join us in welcoming John Monahan to The Mount Pleasant Group.
